Introduction Waterbury is located in west-central Connecticut and lies in a hilly woodland portion of New Haven County. Waterbury is bordered by granite hills to the east and west because of its location on a rocky plain in the Naugatuck River Valley. Since from the early 1800s until the mid-1960s, Waterbury buttons, buckles, and clocks were found in most American homes and is known as the "Brass Capital of the World." Waterbury moved into manufacturing and service industry after the decline of the brass industry after WW II.
The Mad River runs through the city's east side, curves to the west, and joins the Naugatuck River. Waterbury enjoys breezy spring and autumn seasons with warm, humid summers, and cold, dry winters. Snowfall averages 35 inches per year.
