Introduction Danbury is located in southwestern Connecticut in Fairfield County. The largest manmade lake, Lake Candlewood is located in Danbury. Danbury was formerly known as the Hat Capital of the World and official supplier of silk top hats to presidents. It is perhaps best known today as the headquarters of Union Carbide and other industries that have moved out of metropolitan areas. Danbury’s scenic beauty is owed to its location near the Litchfield Hills which is also an affluent region where per capita income is among the highest in the country. The formation of the city's historic downtown district in 1988 has helped in the dramatic downtown development. The rebirth of the city can be witnessed by continued population growth accompanied by a high quality of living that residents enjoy.
The area is surrounded by rolling hills and not-very-tall mountains to the west and northwest (the western highland). Danbury enjoys a four-season climate.
